The rain is falling, the leaves are falling, the temperature is falling; Happy Fall Everyone! It is time to start thinking about dressing warmer. I have some safety tips for clothing for fall and winter riding. Boots need to have a ½ inch heel, and be careful of too much tread or bulkiness, we don’t want anyone’s foot getting stuck in a stirrup! Wool socks are much warmer than cotton. “Warm-up” style pants or snow pants are good to wear over jeans or riding pants, but they can be too slippery to ride in, so students can wear them while getting ready to ride, take them off for the riding portion of their lesson, then put them back on after. Look for gloves that are not bulky and have rubber or leather grips on the fingers and palm so that students can hang on to the reins. Hats must not interfere with proper helmet fit!

The lesson theme for this month is Jumping. Don’t panic!! Most students are not ready for “real” jumping yet, but we will be learning the basics and practicing over ground poles, and some of the more advanced students will be trotting over low set poles by the end of the month.

There are a couple of events coming up in October!

Once again, I will be offering a Windy Driving Day on October 15^th, at 10am. We will start off with a demo of how to put on all of the driving equipment followed by a driving demo and rides for each participant. It should last about two hours, and the cost is $15. This event is open to only five people, so sign up early!!

Come out to the farm on Friday, October 28^th, 5-8pm for an evening of food, fun, and spookiness!! We will have games on horseback, too! More details to follow!!
